Original Illustration "Loneliness"
Illustration is my fist passion. My ability to conceptualize a scene, or an idea and bring it to life with color is one of the reasons I wanted to be a graphic designer. I love to tell stories. Whether it be through art, music, illustration, web or communication; translating thoughts to some kind of conceptual or visual element is something I enjoy. Communication is incredibly important to me. I feel like, if I can communicate my own idea, then maybe I can help others communicate their Idea. That is why I chose to go into graphic design. Taking that thinking and applying it to an interactive media is what got me interested in web design.
This Piece, like many, began in my sketch book. once I sketched out the ideas, I made an outline drawing, then scanned it. Using the scanner as a creative tool is one of my favorite things to do. I love being able to incorporate organic textures, or sketches into my digital work. Scanning also gives me a really great way to start in my sketch book, and progress to the computer. Once I scanned everything in I traced it. Not with live trace, but with my Wacom tablet, in illustrator. There I colored each element layer by layer, paying close attention to detail and form. I used some wood grain and rust textures for the ground. I then added the type. I wanted to use type as a visual element, incorporating into the background. My goal was to tell a story with type without using type to tell the story.
